I don’t understand people who think that global warming is this elaborate plot created by crazy environmentalists. And even if it is, if global warming is not more than a story invented by Al Gore and his minions to obligate people to take care of their planet, so what? is it that bad asking people to stop wasting money in crap they don’t need and start being a little more conscious? I don’t think so. Fear has being used for way worst agendas than keeping the planet clean.
I am by no means an example to follow when it comes to environmental consciousness, but I do my part. I drive a car that use little to no gas, I buy locally, I take short showers and I recycle. You probably won’t see me throwing my self in front of whale-killer boat or chaining my self to the doors of Congress for the environment, but I do my part from my corner of the globe.
Even though I am not hardcore green, I can’t stand it when people say to me “I am bad, I don’t recycle” like that is a
funny thing, like because you whisper it to me that makes it better. If you don’t recycle shame on you, if you don’t recycle because you don’t care… quoting Kelly Clarkson “I don’t wish you bad things, but I don’t wish you well”; and if you don’t recycle and you have kids, you are just selfish and heartless.
This is not a matter of doomsday. If the Earth is going to end today, tomorrow or in a million years is not relevant, the point is, do you want to live in a cleaner planet? do you want your kids or the next generation to enjoy this beautiful place? you should, because every descent human being should.
I recognize that recycling is not the easiest task. Often it gets confusing, and the fact that you have to fit everything in one container (the one given by the town) just gets annoying sometimes. Luckily the Town of Hamden decided to change their policy on recycling and thing may get a little bit simpler. The new rules are: you may now place ALL RECYCLABLES together in their recycling bin for curbside pickup. Also you can use your own container (up to 32 gallons), the only requirement is that you affix two town-provided recycling stickers on opposite sides of each plastic container used for recycling. Simple things that may just make the task a little bit easier.
When I just moved to The Glen, my first day of recycling pick up I just put all of my cans, bottles and plastics in a container in front of my house. When I came back there was a sign indicating the right way to do it, and all of my recycling was still there. I hold the grudge against the recycling guys for the longest time. I would wait for them on Monday morning and watch them from my door giving them the evil eye. They probably never noticed and if they did, they thought I was some kind of crazy (which is not that far from the truth anyways). But now I get it, beside is not that difficult to figure out. and if you have any questions, check out the Town’swebsite.
Now stop being lazy and recycle, it is for your own good!
